Super Green Protein Smoothie
Every morning, without fail I start my day with a smoothie. They are such a quick, convenient way to get nutrients into the body to fuel you for the day ahead. I will generally make a smoothie post exercise, but will always try to have it within 30 minutes of exercise so as to replenish the bodies muscle and liver glycogen stores. This helps with metabolism, blood flow and enzyme activity. It’s the perfect combination of carbohydrate from the banana and protein from the nuts, seeds and Spirulina. The protein powder also helps keep you feeling full for a good few hours. There will be no mind morning snack cravings with this breakfast.
ingredients
Serves 1 large or 2 small portions
1 banana
½ kiwi
½ apple
½ avacado
1 tbsp natural yoghurt
handful of cashew nuts
handful of pumpkin seeds
handful of washed organic spinach leaves
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tsp spirulina
1 tsp protein powder (optional)
1 cup organic unsweetened oat/or almond milk and enough water to make a smooth consistency.
method
Combine all the ingredients in a large high speed blender. Once it has reached a smooth consistency pour into a glass and serve.
My partner and I ran our first ever Olympic distance triathlon on this smoothie. It fuelled us for all three gruelling hours of it. It’s a definite winner!
